[dropcaps_dark] S [/dropcaps_dark] olar PV is the first step to reducing your electricity bills and getting paid for the electricity you produce. As an incentive the government has the ‘Feed in Tariff ‘ this pays you for every kWh of energy you produce. Once you have a solar PV system fitted you will then start to benefit from the electricity it produces immediately, how much energy you produce depends on the size of the system. The price of solar PV systems are cheaper than ever, to find out about a system request a quote.
Solar Photovoltaic panels have cells that are made up of special materials called semiconductors such as silicon, when light strikes the cell a certain portion of it is absorbed within the semiconductor material. The energy knocks electrons loose allowing them to flow freely. This is called a current and by placing metal contacts over the top and over the bottom of the PV cell we can draw that current off for external use in our home
A 4kW solar panel system could benefit you up to £900 a year in your home
Depending on how well you use the system you can cut your electricity bills by up to 50%. Then you will get paid by your electricity company for the energy you generate, this is for twenty years and is guaranteed. For the average residential system you will get paid 15.5p for every kWh (kilo Watt hour) you generate. The size of the system will also determine how much you will produce.

There are a few things to take into consideration when looking at a solar PV system, like the direction, size and pitch of your roof. This means you will need a free survey, we take measurements to see what size system you could be looking at and give you figures on the benefits and returns you will get from a solar PV system.

- Protect you against future price rises of electricity
- Produce free electricity you can use in your home
- Cut your existing electricity bill by up to 50%
- Benefit from inflation-linked returns of up to 11%, guaranteed by government for 20 years
- Lower your carbon footprint
- Use your roof to generate a income for your home
- what you earn and gain from the system is all tax free
Another thing we will look at is the energy efficiency of the property, from 1st April this year the government brought in a new rule. This rule says to get the full feed in tariff your property must be a grade ‘D’ or above. Nearly 50% of properties in this country meet this grade and we will look into this for you. If you do not have a relevant EPC (energy performance certificate) already and there is no certificate we will do one for you free (based on agreement to quotation for solar panel installation).
This image shows the radiation of the sun from south round to north. As you can see from the figures south is our optimum, you don’t need to be south facing but this is where you will get the most daily irradiation from.
The pitch of the roof is also a factor and we need to look at all this data to give you a accurate reading of what your system is going to produce.
We will present you with spreadsheet detailing what the system will produce year in year out over 30 years. In this will be all the electricity savings and tariff you will be paid over the 20 years. All figures are based on SAP calculations from the government (Standard Assessment Procedure).
Solar PV is a fantastic investment and if you want to look into this more please get in touch we are happy to help answer all your questions.
